AT the official request of the Government of Belize, a 14-member cultural delegation from the Co-operative Republic of Guyana recently arrived in Belize to participate in the nation’s 45th independence anniversary celebrations.
Spearheaded as a symbolic gift of friendship from the Government of Guyana and His Excellency the President, Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, the bilateral exchange underscores the deep diplomatic ties and shared CARICOM heritage between both nations, a press release said.
It added that the delegation, which departed Guyana on September 16 and will return on September 22, 2026, represents the country’s vibrant “One Guyana” national vision.
Across four curated live showcases scheduled from September 18 to 21, the delegation will highlight Guyana’s multi-ethnic traditions—spanning Indigenous, Afro-Guyanese, Indo-Guyanese, and contemporary Caribbean arts—through dance, music, vocal performances, spoken word, and visual arts.
The key objectives of the cultural exchange are:
* Strengthening bilateral & CARICOM Relations: Expressing solidarity and celebrating a major milestone with a sister CARICOM state through cultural diplomacy.
* Showcasing Guyana’s Diverse Heritage: Demonstrating the rich cultural tapestry of Guyana’s six peoples through multi-disciplinary performances.
* Promoting Cultural Unity: Fostering creative dialogue and collaboration between Guyanese artists and Belizean communities.
* Presenting a Symbolic Gift of Friendship: Creating and presenting a custom piece of live artwork during the celebrations, as a lasting emblem of unity between Guyana and Belize.
The 14-member team comprises accomplished creative artists, performers, and stage directors. They are Adrian Dutchin, Andrew Tyndall, Carlvin Burnett, Diana Chapman, Inezi Emmanuel, Joel Browne, Miguel Ram, Sattie Udho, Staaie Udho, Swasti Saytoo, Teavona Cole, Tennicia DeFreitas and Winston Alexander.
