THE World Trade Centre Georgetown (WTCG) will host a day-long workshop on International Trade Research on Thursday, October 22, 2026, as part of its International Trade and Investment Conference, which runs from October 19 to 23 at the WTCG.
The workshop is designed to help export-oriented companies and entrepreneurs develop the research skills needed to make informed decisions and build viable export plans, according to a press release from the WTCG.
Success in regional and international markets, according to the WTCG, requires more than a good product; it takes sound research, market intelligence and a well-developed export strategy.
It is against this backdrop that the workshop has been organised, with the goal of giving participants a practical grounding in export planning from the ground up.
Over the course of the day, participants will explore how to identify target customers and competitors, assess market conditions and determine competitive advantage, while learning to apply both primary and secondary research to evaluate the feasibility of an export project.
The session will also look at how market intelligence can inform product development, marketing strategies and the choice of appropriate market-entry approaches.
Key areas to be covered include the role of research in effective decision-making, primary and secondary research methodologies, and the formulation of effective research questions.
Participants will also learn to gather and analyse target-market intelligence, assess competitors and their strategies, and use research to strengthen marketing initiatives.
The workshop will wrap up with guidance on compiling and analysing research findings and developing a comprehensive, viable export plan.
Leading the session will be Sandra Ann Baptiste, an International Trade Specialist and Canadian Certified International Trade Professional (CITP), who brings more than 30 years of Caribbean and international experience as a business consultant, communications specialist and trainer.
Her professional background includes work with the World Bank, Guyana’s Office for Investment (GO-Invest), the European Union, the Caribbean Export Development Agency and the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association, among other organisations.
Baptiste has also evaluated international trade projects for the Forum for International Trade Training (FITT) and has extensive experience training professionals in international trade, management, negotiation, global market preparation and trade promotion.
The WTCG said the workshop is particularly timely, coming as Guyanese and other CARICOM businesses look to expand their presence in regional and global markets. Participants who complete the workshop will receive a certificate of participation.
Export-oriented companies, entrepreneurs considering exporting, and businesses seeking to strengthen their international market strategies are encouraged to take part.
The workshop forms part of the wider International Trade and Investment Conference, organised by the WTCG from October 19 to 23, 2026, which brings together business leaders, investors, policymakers and other stakeholders to explore trade and investment opportunities in Guyana and international markets.
