NKOSI Beaton and Frank Waddell made strides before being knocked out in both singles and doubles categories at the 2026 Costa Rica Future Series in San José.
Beaton first came up against Colombia’s Daine Marulanda in the round of 64, getting a walkover before beating Costa Rica’s Otto Rucavado in straight sets 21-8 and 21-6 in the round of 32.
In the round of 16, Beaton lost to Guatemala’s Olympic medalist Kevin Cordon 21-6 and 21-12.
Waddell got a bye in the round of 64 before going down to Canada’s Kevin Shan 21-15 and 21-14 in the round of 32.
The Guyanese duo, who worked briefly under Indian coach Kartikey Gund before departing for Costa Rica, lost in the round of 32 in the men’s doubles.
They were defeated by the USA’s Jaden Chen and Napat Srisalaopaisal 21-10 and 21-7.
GBA president Emily Ramdhani said the players went with the goal of gaining points towards LA 2028 Olympic qualification.
“GBA is proud of the efforts of both Waddell and Beaton that continue to gain valuable international exposure and experience while representing Guyana on the international badminton circuit…’ the participation in the international futures, which forms part of the association’s continued commitment to provide opportunities to compete at a high level and develop your skills against the region’s and world’s leading players.”
The main draw concludes on Sunday with the semifinals set to be contested on September 12 before the respective champions are decided on September 13.
The Badminton World Federation and the Badminton Pan Am Confederation sanction the competition.
