FOUR-TIME defending champions Headquarters are through to the final of the Guyana Police Force Commissioner of Police (CoP) T20 Cup following a hard-fought 19-run victory over the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Academy at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary, yesterday.
Set a challenging 178 for victory, after Headquarters had reached 177 for nine in their allotted 20 overs, GPF Academy were left high and dry on 158 for five when their 20 overs expired.
Opener Vishaul Williams led the charge for the GPF Academy with a fine 73 before he went via the run-out route, his innings decorated with five fours and two sixes off 48 balls, while Jarel Hemerdin was undefeated on 31, hitting one four and three sixes. Kapil Deo Charandeen was Headquarters’ best bowler with two for 11 from two overs.
Earlier, skipper Ameer Mohamed batted responsibly for the defending champions, spanking nine fours in a top score of 49 off 37 balls, while Kanhaiya Ramkaran lashed a quick-fire 36 off 20 balls, spiced with two fours and three sixes and opener Andrew Lyght Jnr., 34 with four fours and four sixes.

Joshua Kishundial excelled with the ball for the GPF Academy, bagging an impressive four for 22 from his four overs.
Headquarters qualified for the semi-finals after opponents Presidential Guards failed to show up for their encounter on Tuesday.
The other semi-final, featuring the Tactical Services Unit and Region Six were being contested up to press time.
Region Six upstaged Region 10 to earn their place in the semi-final, despite another brilliant knock by national wicket-keeper Kemol Savory, who followed up his 137 against Region 4C on Monday with an undefeated 123 on Tuesday.
Taking first strike, Region 10 reached a formidable 205 for two in their 20 overs, with Savory, who has been called up to join the St Lucia Kings for the remainder of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), smashing 13 fours and six sixes in his brutal innings. Bevon Braithwaite was undefeated on 39 with three fours and three sixes.
In reply, Region Six reached 208 for eight in 20 overs after needing 23 in the final over. Rocky Houston led the charge, spanking 10 fours and a six in his 72 while Kenwin Amsterdam, batting at number 10, was the last-over hero, blasting four fours and a six in an undefeated 22 to spark wild celebrations among the Region Six players.
The other game, also played on Tuesday, saw the Tactical Services Unit (TSU) sending perennial “bridemaids” Officers packing, inflicting a six-wicket win on their opponents.
Set 143 for victory, after restricting Officers to 142 for seven, TSU reached the required target in 13.5 overs with opener Eyon Rodrigues hitting a top score of 53 not out, which included six fours and a six while his opening partner Collis Burnett hit 38 (three fours and three sixes).
Troy Benn was the standout for Officers, scoring 58 with six fours and two sixes, while skipper Ravindranauth Budhram supported with 25. Andre Baker claimed two for 32 for the TSU.
