PEOPLE’S Progressive Party (PPP) Councillor, Jewuela Caesar, has filed a cybercrime report against a local journalist, alleging that a series of interactions and social media activity involving her had escalated to a point where she felt compelled to make a report.
Caesar made the disclosure while speaking in an interview with News Room, where she said the matter stemmed from a comment she made on a Facebook post by a news outlet, which she described as “sarcastic” but not disrespectful.
She said following the comment, her interactions with the journalist became increasingly uncomfortable, prompting her to seek intervention.
Caesar said an incident during political campaigning at East Ruimveldt was among the factors that led her to file the report.
She said the journalist approached her while she was campaigning and questioned her on matters relating to the community, before moving on to other issues which she felt uncomfortable discussing at the time.
The councillor said she wants the matter addressed so that the alleged conduct comes to an end, adding that she would continue to report the journalist if the situation persists.
She said the situation has affected her personally and professionally, but maintained that she has sought to remain composed while pursuing the matter through the relevant authorities.
