–as Trinidad and Tobago marks 64 years of Independence

PRESIDENT Irfaan Ali has extended congratulations to the Government and people of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago as the twin-island nation marks its 64th Anniversary of Independence.
In a message issued on behalf of the Government and people of Guyana, President Ali said: “On behalf of the Government and people of Guyana, I extend warmest congratulations and best wishes to the Government and people of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago as they celebrate their 64th Anniversary of Independence.”
The Guyanese Head of State pointed to the historic ties between the two CARICOM neighbours, noting that “Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago share deep bonds of friendship, history and regional solidarity.”
He added that Guyana joins in celebrating the milestone and wished the Trinbagonian people “continued peace, prosperity and progress.” Trinidad and Tobago gained independence from British colonial rule on August 31, 1962.
