THE Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Priya Manickchand, on Thursday, conducted a community walkthrough in Agricola, engaging directly with residents to listen to their most pressing concerns and evaluating the area’s infrastructure.

According to information from the ministry, during the outreach, residents guided the minister through the neighborhood, utilising the opportunity to highlight daily challenges impacting their quality of life.

A primary issue raised by community members was the state of the local streetlights, with residents pointing out specific areas where the lighting is currently non-functional, posing safety and visibility concerns for the neighbourhood.

Addressing the issue directly, Minister Manickchand reassured the residents that their complaints were heard and are being prioritised.

Emphasising the government’s hands-on approach to local development, she committed to returning to Agricola in the near future to host a comprehensive community meeting.

This upcoming forum will provide a structured platform to formally address the streetlight repairs, outline targeted solutions, and tackle any additional infrastructural or social issues within the community.

“The Government of Guyana, through the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, remains committed to improving environmental management while working alongside residents to build cleaner, safer, and more sustainable neighbourhoods. This ongoing exercise is part of the ministry’s vision to connect communities,” the ministry said.
