MINISTER of Housing and Parliamentary Representative for Region One, Collin Croal, has visited survivors of the MV Barima tragedy and families who lost loved ones, as the Government continues efforts to provide support following the maritime disaster.
Croal, who was recently in Mabaruma, met with affected families in Imbotero, Smith Creek, White Water, Hotoquai and Aruka Mouth as part of President Dr Irfaan Ali’s commitment to maintaining ongoing engagement with those impacted by the tragedy.
During the visits, Croal provided survivors and bereaved relatives with information on the activation of the HEART (Hope, Empathy, Aid, Resilience and Trust) initiative, whose team is expected to be in Mabaruma in the new week to provide further assistance.
The ministerial outreach comes as various government agencies and other stakeholders continue to support affected communities, with Croal emphasising the importance of direct engagement to ensure that assistance outlined by the President reaches families.
Croal was accompanied by Regional Chairman Brentnol Ashley and Deputy Mayor of Mabaruma Leanne Persaud during the visits.
The MV Barima sank on July 18, resulting in multiple fatalities and leaving survivors and families across Region One grappling with the aftermath of the tragedy.
