THE Guyana Police Force (GPF) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are strengthening their collaboration to improve the response to noise nuisance complaints, with Police ranks across all 12 policing divisions set to receive specialised training in noise monitoring and assessment.
The initiative follows a meeting between representatives of the EPA, Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken and senior members of the GPF on Monday, August 24, 2026, at the Commissioner’s Conference Room, Eve Leary, Georgetown.
The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two agencies aimed at enhancing the Police Force’s capacity to effectively address complaints involving excessive noise.
Under the collaboration, Police ranks will be trained in the proper handling of noise nuisance complaints, including the use of specialised equipment to measure and assess noise levels.
The initiative will also focus on ensuring that the equipment is properly calibrated and that officers assigned to use it receive the necessary technical training.
Training is expected to begin this week across all 12 policing divisions, allowing ranks throughout the country to develop the skills required to respond to noise-related complaints in a consistent and professional manner.
The strengthened partnership between the GPF and EPA is expected to improve the enforcement of regulations governing acceptable noise levels and enhance the agencies’ overall response to noise nuisance complaints across the country.
