GUYANA Power and Light Inc. (GPL) has renewed operation and maintenance contracts with Power Producers and Distributors Inc. (PPDI) and APAN Energy Services Inc., securing the continued management of power generation facilities with a combined capacity of nearly 135 megawatts.
Under the renewed agreements, APAN Energy Services will continue to operate and maintain the 28.9-megawatt power plant at Columbia, while PPDI will remain responsible for the Kingston, Garden of Eden, and Vreed-en-Hoop power plants, which, together have a generation capacity of 106 megawatts.
GPL said the contracts will support the continued operation and maintenance of the facilities, which play a critical role in meeting electricity demand and maintaining a reliable supply to customers across the national grid.
The agreements were signed by Head of GPL’s Executive Management Committee Kesh Nandlall; Plant Manager of APAN Energy Services Ronald Cheruiyot; and Chief Executive Officer of PPDI Dr. Brian Sukhai.
Divisional Director Gary Hall, along with other representatives and stakeholders from the respective companies, also attended the signing.
GPL said the renewal forms part of its wider effort to ensure the efficient management and maintenance of its generation assets while strengthening the reliability and stability of electricity supply across the Demerara-Berbice Interconnected System (DBIS).
The company said it remains committed to working with its partners to maintain adequate generation capacity, while advancing initiatives aimed at strengthening and modernising Guyana’s electricity sector.
