THE Office of the Prime Minister’s Industry and Innovation Unit (OPM-IIU) recently concluded its five-day Innovation Camp, held for the first time in the mining town of Linden, Region Ten.

From August 10 to 14, 2026, the free programme brought together young people ages 12 to 19 for an exciting week of technology-driven learning, creativity, and innovation.

The participants who came from Blueberry Hill, Andyville, Buckville, Central Mackenzie, Speightland, Lower Kara Kara, Amelia’s Ward, Coomacka Mines, and surrounding communities, developed practical skills in computer productivity, cybersecurity, coding, and programming.

Through interactive exercises and hands-on activities, they explored how technology can address everyday challenges and create educational, personal, and professional opportunities.

The sessions were facilitated throughout the week by Racquel Gill, and the Innovation Camp equipped Linden’s youth with valuable digital knowledge, inspiring them to become creators, problem solvers, and active contributors to Guyana’s digital transformation.

The next leg of the Innovation Camp continues in Region Four at the Better Hope Community Centre on the East Coast of Demerara.

Along with building ICT capacity, ICT job creation and business incubation, the Industry and Innovation Unit is mandated to create an enabling environment that will support an ICT driven private sector, drive economic growth, eliminate social inequalities, and level the playing field for equal access and economic upliftment for all Guyanese.
