–as Region Four RDC procures Starlink devices

HUNDREDS of students and teachers along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway are set to gain access to high-speed internet after the Regional Democratic Council of Region No. 4 (Demerara-Mahaica) procured a fleet of high-powered Starlink devices for 10 schools and the Department of Education (DOE) at Friendship.
According to information from the Regional Executive Officer (REO), Juan Edghill Jr., the initiative gives effect to President Irfaan Ali’s vision for a digitally inclusive Guyana and reflects two key commitments in the People’s Progressive Party/Civic’s manifesto: “Building an Inclusive Digital Society” and “Development of Amerindian Communities.”
The REO said the move will strengthen digital connectivity across the highway communities, giving students and teachers greater access to online educational resources, digital learning platforms, and other tools that support modern teaching and learning.
The rollout covers two nursery schools, at Yarrowkabra and Kuru Kururu, along with seven primary schools serving Moblissa, Silver Hill, Yarrowkabra, Kuru Kuru, Long Creek, St. Cuthbert’s and Kuru Kururu. Dora Secondary and the DOE Friendship round out the list of 11 institutions set to benefit from the new systems.
According to the Region Four administration, the Starlink systems are expected to be fully installed and operational in time for the commencement of the new school term.
The project forms part of Region Four’s continued efforts to ensure that geography does not determine a child’s access to opportunity, and that children in hinterland and highway communities have the digital resources they need to learn, grow and compete.
“Connecting our schools. Empowering our teachers. Creating greater opportunities for every child,” the REO said in announcing the initiative.
