Fake housing agents target unsuspecting citizens

– public warned against fake WhatsApp, CH&PA MMG payment requests

THE Ministry of Housing and Water’s Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) is once again urging citizens to be extremely vigilant against scammers who are fraudulently posing as representatives of the agency to solicit money. The government body has seen an increase in reports of illegal transactions being attempted via unofficial channels.
“The public is reminded that the CH&PA does not conduct business relating to the sale or allocation of properties, lands, house lots, or homes via WhatsApp messaging,” the Ministry stated in a public notice.
Authorities are strongly advising citizens not to send money or personal information to anyone claiming to facilitate housing transactions through WhatsApp.
Specific operational details were highlighted to help citizens spot fraudulent activity. For example, any mobile money payments (like MMG) accepted by the CH&PA are strictly for applications that have been submitted through the Single Window Application Portal. Most importantly, the official CH&PA MMG account is registered solely as a merchant account in the name of the Central Housing and Planning Authority. It is not registered to any private citizen or staff member.
The CH&PA confirmed that it “does not request payments to personal MMG accounts or other personal payment methods.” The public is further warned that the telephone number 682-9803 is not in any way associated with the agency.
Officials emphasized that all information, payment requests, and transactions should be verified directly through the Ministry of Housing–CH&PA’s official physical offices and verified communication channels before making any payment or sharing sensitive personal details.
