FOURTEEN Licensing and Certifying Officers of the Guyana Police Force (GPF), along with two representatives of the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS), are being trained in the installation of speed limiters as authorities move to strengthen enforcement of vehicle safety standards.
The one-day training was conducted Monday at the Officers’ Training Centre and is designed to equip the participating ranks with the technical knowledge and practical skills required to install and certify speed-limiting devices.
The police participants, whose ranks range from Inspector to Corporal, are being exposed to the procedures involved in the installation of the devices, including practical aspects of their operation and application.
During the session, the participants received technical guidance from Aztec Global representative Ryan Allen before proceeding to the practical component of the training.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the GPF to improve road safety and promote compliance with established traffic and vehicle standards.
The enhanced technical capacity of Licensing and Certifying Officers is expected to support more effective oversight of vehicles subject to speed-limiting requirements and strengthen the enforcement of measures aimed at reducing road-related risks.
The involvement of GNBS representatives also provides an institutional link between police enforcement and national standards relating to vehicle safety and certification.
