TEN students who excelled at the 2026 National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) have received bursaries from the Guyana Logistics and Support Services Inc. (GLASS) Group of Companies, with the initiative this year expanded to include financial literacy and investment opportunities.
The bursary awards were presented on August 13 at the GLASS Group’s office at 87 Barrack Street, Kingston, Georgetown, as the company partnered with Guyana Americas Merchant Bank (GuyAMBank) to provide support beyond traditional educational assistance.
The awardees are children of employees of the GLASS Group and were recognised for their strong performances at this year’s NGSA.
Chief Executive Officer of the GLASS Group, Glenn Low-a-Chee, said the expanded programme is intended to give students and their families a stronger foundation for managing finances and planning for the future.
“We wanted to go beyond providing financial assistance by introducing a component that encourages long-term financial planning and investment. Through this initiative, we are giving parents and students a head start on their educational journey,” Low-a-Chee said.
The partnership with GuyAMBank forms a new component of the annual bursary programme, with financial education and investment opportunities being introduced alongside assistance with students’ educational expenses.
GuyAMBank General Manager, Ganesh Jaikaran, said the bank was pleased to collaborate with GLASS in supporting young people and encouraging greater awareness of financial planning from an early age.
“Investing in young people today helps build a stronger future for Guyana. We are proud to be part of this initiative,” Jaikaran said.
Parents of the awardees also welcomed the initiative, expressing appreciation for the support while highlighting the value of introducing children to financial empowerment alongside their academic development.
The 2026 GLASS bursary awardees are Anthony David, Talicia Hazel, Bryan Samuels, Arianna Chattersingh, Kia Ketwaroo, Jamella McBean, Kristin Weekes, Sky Johnson, Brandon Lee and Henriquo Phillips.
The initiative was launched one day before Financial Literacy Day, observed on August 14, reinforcing the importance of equipping young people with knowledge about responsible money management, saving, investment and long-term financial planning.
By incorporating financial literacy into its bursary programme, GLASS and GuyAMBank are seeking to ensure that the benefits of the initiative extend beyond immediate educational support and contribute to the development of financially informed students and families.
