RESIDENTS and commuters of Shanghai Street in Amelia’s Ward, Region 10, can now traverse on a newly rehabilitated and widened roadway, the Ministry of Public Works disclosed on Thursday.

In a Facebook post, the ministry said its team stationed in Linden executed the road and drainage works, enhancing the stretch for residents and road users.

The project was undertaken in response to the deteriorated condition of the existing roadway and the need for a more effective system to manage surface water, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.

A major component of the project was the construction of concrete drains and slipper drains along the roadway; to improve the collection and conveyance of surface water and allowing direct runoff away from the road surface and surrounding properties, the ministry said, adding that the project included the construction of a junction box at the lowest point of the roadway.

“The improved roadway will now provide safer and more comfortable travel conditions for motorists, pedestrians and other road users, while also improving access to homes, businesses and other facilities within the community.

“Overall, the rehabilitation of Shanghai Street represents the continued commitment to upgrading and maintaining road infrastructure and connectivity within communities and ensuring improved conditions to better withstand environmental conditions while supporting the daily movement of people, goods and services,” the ministry said.

It used the opportunity to the people of Shanghai Street for their co-operation and patience during the rehabilitation period.
