A 29-year-old salesman has been charged with two counts of manslaughter following a deadly confrontation on Water Street, Georgetown, that left two men dead.

Angelo Answick of Industry, East Coast Demerara (ECD), appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Tuesday, where the indictable charges were read to him in connection with the deaths of 23-year-old Wreford Vincent Trim, called “Junior Browne,” and 36-year-old Tyrone Captain.

Trim, a vendor of Durban Backlands, Georgetown, and Captain, a labourer of Eversham, Corentyne, Berbice, and Beepat Squatting Area, Sophia, Georgetown, were fatally wounded during the August 7, 2026 incident.

Police said the confrontation occurred at about 9:30 a.m. along Water Street following an altercation involving Answick and the two men.

According to the preliminary findings of the investigation, both Trim and Captain sustained stab wounds during the confrontation.

Trim was subsequently found on Commerce Street, Georgetown, and was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor.

Captain was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for medical attention but died while undergoing treatment.

Answick was subsequently arrested by police, who also recovered a knife suspected to have been used during the incident. The weapon has since been lodged for forensic examination.

However, the circumstances surrounding the deaths were disputed in court during Tuesday’s bail hearing.

Answick was represented by Attorney-at-Law Kiswana Jefford of Hughes, Fields and Stoby, who told the court that her client acted in self-defence.

Jefford submitted that Answick was being pursued by Trim and Captain before the confrontation escalated. She further claimed that one of the men struck Answick with a bottle during the incident.

The defence attorney told the court that CCTV footage reviewed by investigators support the account that the now two deceased men had followed Answick to the area where the confrontation occurred.

According to Jefford, the footage also captured one of the men assaulting Answick with a bottle before the fatal encounter.

The court was further told that a third person was allegedly involved in the altercation but fled the area before police arrived.

The prosecution has obtained CCTV footage as part of the investigation.

After considering the circumstances presented during the bail application, Magistrate Daly granted Answick bail totalling $1.5 million.

He was granted bail of $750,000 on each of the two manslaughter charges.
