HOME Affairs Minister Oneidge Walrond has said Guyana is taking its fight against transnational crime beyond its own borders, joining a regional push for tighter intelligence sharing and coordinated security action across the Americas.
In a post shared on her Facebook page, Minister Walrond announced that she is currently in Panama for the Americas Counter-Cartel Coalition (A3C) Campaign Forum, where she is part of a Guyanese delegation led by Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips.
“Transnational crime does not respect borders. Our response cannot stop at them either,” Minister Walrond wrote, emphasising that the trip is part of a broader commitment to regional co-operation against organised crime.
According to the minister, discussions at the forum are centred on strengthening intelligence sharing among member states, tightening border and maritime security, and pursuing coordinated action to disrupt cartels, trafficking networks and other organised criminal enterprises operating across the hemisphere.
Reaffirming Guyana’s commitment to the coalition’s goals, Minister Walrond said the country will continue deepening partnerships, building capabilities, and pursuing the co-operation needed to protect its borders, people and national interests.
She closed her message with a simple summation of Guyana’s approach to regional security: “Security requires vigilance. Partnership gives us strength. Action delivers results.”
