THE Guyana Police Force’s Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) has begun a series of outreach sessions across the country’s Regional Police Divisions aimed at strengthening professionalism, ethical conduct and accountability among police ranks.
The programme commenced on Monday, August 10, 2026, with the first session held at the Conference Room of the Brickdam Police Station, Eve Leary, Regional Division 4 ‘A’.
The 10:00 hrs session was facilitated by Assistant Superintendent (on probation) Anourudh Bisson and Sergeant Rodwell Chapman, who engaged police ranks on key issues relating to professional standards and the responsibilities of members of the Force.
Among the areas addressed were the role and functions of the OPR, police ethics and professional conduct, Force Standing Orders, the proper handling and integrity of evidence, and procedures governing the investigation of complaints against police officers.
The outreach initiative forms part of the OPR’s ongoing efforts to ensure that ranks understand the standards expected of them and the mechanisms available for addressing alleged breaches of professional conduct.
According to the OPR, similar outreach sessions have been conducted over the past three years as part of its continued sensitisation programme.
The sessions are expected to continue across all Regional Police Divisions as the OPR intensifies efforts to promote professionalism, integrity and accountability within the Guyana Police Force.
The initiative comes as police forces globally face increasing demands for greater transparency and accountability, making internal oversight and adherence to established professional standards critical to maintaining public confidence in law enforcement.
