THE police have launched an investigation after a 9mm pistol and ammunition were discovered during an intelligence-led operation at the Kwakwani Park airstrip, Upper Berbice River.

According to the police, the operation was conducted at about 00:30hrs on Saturday, August 8, after ranks acting on information  went to an unfinished and unoccupied concrete structure.

A search of the building led to the discovery of a black plastic bag containing a silver-coloured Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol fitted with a magazine containing one live 9mm round.

The firearm, magazine and ammunition were taken to the Kwakwani Police Station and lodged pending examination.

No arrest was made as the investigation continues.
