THE Caribbean Boxing Organisation has once again teamed up with Bris-O
promotion to host the second edition of the CBO’s Professional-Amateur
Fight night boxing card on Saturday, September 12, at the Cliff Anderson
Sports Hall.
The card features 7 professional and four amateur bouts and is sanctioned
by the Guyana Boxing Board of Control.
The first bout on the card features Guyana’s Kevin Isaacs and Trinidad’s
Shakere Garcia, then Joel Williamson will take on Richard Howard Jr.
Also set to enter the squared circle are Jamal Eastman and Steptan Barton;
then Suriname’s Mitchell Wielson will battle Rickenson Henry of Grenada.
James Moore will then face off with Joel McRae of Trinidad, and Barbados’
Tyreec Tait will also lace up his gloves against Chivarro Blackson of Suriname.
Laured Stewart is set to get back into the ring in the main event against
Weillials Ocando of Venezuela.
Chairman of Bris-O promotions and President of the Caribbean Boxing
Organisation, Seon Bristol, says they will not be a waiver in their mandate.
‘I’m happy that boxing is back again. Most of us are aware of our
most recent world title fight that has been staged at the Pegasus
Hotel, but keeping boxing alive is one of our top priorities….. I’m
happy that we are being able to stage this second event, and I trust that we will continue to show that support that the Guyanese supporter has shown.’
President of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control, Peter Abdool, says what the CBO is doing is critical because fighters need to build their record to be able to challenge for a world title bout, as was the case with Elton Dharry, who won his world title in Guyana.
‘CBO is not just doing this locally; they are doing it regionally.
We are bringing the best of the Caribbean together and building them with their record. As you go down this card, you will see
what I’m talking about. What you will see is that these guys who fought on the last card are having a chance to develop further into another card.’
Abdool commended the organiser for building capacity not just in organising the fight but also broadcasting about the Caribbean and the world.
He said that Guyana has produced eight world champions, and they have the recipe that could be emulated in the region, and by having regional competitions, they will put regional boxers in position to go for world titles.
The CBO says the next card on the schedule will be in Barbados later in the year, and they hope to host one more event locally by the end of the year.
The CBO fight card is sponsored by Tower Hotel and Suites, CB 1 Construction, Superbet Guyana, Nicky’s Fish Shop, Canje Restaurant, and the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports.
