—as residents express enthusiasm for community’s future

RESIDENTS of Hopetown gathered in large numbers at the Nursery School to participate in the Model Village Initiative consultation, led by President Dr Irfaan Ali.

This event brought together Housing Minister, Collin Croal; Education Minister, Sonia Parag; Minister within the Ministry of Housing, Vanessa Benn; regional officials; and representatives from key government agencies.

Residents expressed enthusiasm for the community’s future, engaging actively with the team by asking questions and sharing ideas on transforming Hopetown into a model village.

Minister Benn presented a detailed development plan that includes infrastructural upgrades such as road rehabilitation, reinforced concrete drains, bridges, culverts, utility assessments, pedestrian walkways, landscaping, greening projects, and enhancements to public spaces.

The presentation noted that Hopetown covers roughly 94 acres, featuring 16 streets, over 200 households, 20 small businesses, and key facilities like a nursery and primary school, technical institute, community centre, churches, burial ground, and green spaces.

A phased approach was outlined, starting with utility coordination and drainage work, followed by drainage and access improvements, pedestrian infrastructure, road repairs, and community greening.

Friday’s consultation is another demonstration of the government’s dedication to involving residents in development decisions, ensuring their voices and ideas guide Hopetown’s transformation.
