Guyana emerges as ANSA McAL’s fastest-growing market

GUYANA emerged as the ANSA McAL Group’s fastest-growing market during the first half of 2026, with revenue climbing by nearly 20 per cent as the Caribbean conglomerate posted strong financial results across its regional operations.

In financial results released on Friday, the Trinidad and Tobago-based company reported that revenue generated in Guyana increased by 19.7 per cent to TT$490 million, up from TT$410 million during the corresponding period last year.

The company said Guyana delivered the strongest performance among its geographic markets, with growth recorded in every territory except Barbados and the United States.

Overall, group revenue rose three per cent to TT$3.79 billion, while profit before tax from continuing operations increased 25 per cent to TT$401 million.

The group also reported an eight per cent increase in adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA), which rose to TT$751 million from TT$696 million in the corresponding period last year.

Earnings per share also climbed 50 per cent to TT$1.50, reflecting what the company described as resilient performance across its diversified portfolio.

ANSA McAL said the beverage and financial-services sectors made the strongest contributions to its first-half performance, while the services sector also benefitted from gains realised through strategic asset sales.

However, it acknowledged that the chemicals, distribution and automotive businesses continued to operate in more challenging market conditions, with management implementing measures aimed at improving performance.

The group also strengthened its financial position during the reporting period by repaying TT$683 million in debt, reducing its gearing ratio from 23.9 per cent at the end of 2025 to 19.6 per cent.

Its financial discipline was further recognised by regional credit rating agency CariCRIS, which assigned ANSA McAL inaugural issuer and corporate credit ratings of CariAA on the regional scale and ttAA on the Trinidad and Tobago national scale, both with stable outlooks.

The company also announced progress on its sustainability agenda, having introduced group-wide Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) targets in May, focused on workplace safety, waste management and renewable energy generation.

Looking ahead, ANSA McAL said it recently secured a financing partnership of up to US$500 million with IDB Invest—the largest commitment of its kind in the Caribbean—which will support future investment programmes, regional expansion and sustainability initiatives.

Commenting on the results, Chairman A Norman Sabga said the company’s first-half performance reflected the resilience of its operations and the continued confidence of investors in its long-term strategy.

“Our financial strength, diversification and disciplined execution remain defining characteristics of ANSA McAL and give us confidence in our ability to navigate uncertainty while continuing to create long-term value for our stakeholders across the region,” he said.

Headquartered in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, ANSA McAL operates more than 30 companies across eight business sectors in over eight territories, with its products and services available in more than 30 countries worldwide.
