CHIEF Executive Officer of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), Dr Martin Pertab, along with a team of engineers and technical staff, on Friday conducted a site visit to assess ongoing electricity-distribution works at Blocks One and Five, Great Diamond, East Bank Demerara.

The inspection forms part of the authority’s continued monitoring of infrastructural development aimed at improving living conditions and boosting occupancy within the housing scheme.

According to information from the CH&PA, works at Block One are approximately 60 percent complete, with the contractor currently engaged in pole planting, installation of guy wires, earths and switches, and the stringing and tensioning of primary and secondary conductors. Completion of this phase is targeted for September 20, 2026.

At Block Five, progress stands at approximately 70 percent, with the contractor undertaking pole planting, installation of guy wires, transformers and switches, along with the stringing of primary and secondary conductors. This phase is expected to be completed by August 30, 2026.

The electrification works form part of CH&PA’s ongoing infrastructural programme, with an estimated $220 million being invested to benefit some 3,200 lots across the housing schemes.

Speaking during the site visit, Dr Pertab noted that the provision of electricity and other essential utilities, including water, remains critical to boosting occupancy levels within the scheme.

He added that the completion of road networks will continue in tandem as occupancy increases, thereby ensuring that residents have access to the full complement of infrastructures needed for community development.

The Ministry of Housing and the CH&PA have reiterated their commitment to accelerating infrastructural works across housing schemes nationwide, as part of broader efforts to facilitate timely occupancy and improve the quality of life for beneficiaries.
