THE Rotaract Club of Georgetown Central (RCGC) has elected young diplomacy professional Tevianne Griffith as its new president for the 2026–2027 Rotary year, with the Essequibo native pledging to strengthen the club’s culture of service while expanding its impact through community-focused initiatives.

Griffith officially assumed office at the start of the new Rotary and Rotaract year on July 1, succeeding the club’s outgoing leadership. She will serve until June 2027, overseeing one of Guyana’s largest and most active Rotaract clubs.

Speaking about her appointment, Griffith said she was honoured by the confidence shown by members, who elected her after she emerged with the highest number of votes from among four nominees.

“I was extremely humbled by the confidence that the membership actually placed in me. It signalled that my clubbies had the confidence that I could actually lead our club,” she said.

Although aware of the responsibilities associated with the role, Griffith said she accepted the challenge knowing she would have the support of a capable executive team.

“I understood the weight of the responsibility. I didn’t have doubts. But I also knew that with my team, I would definitely have the necessary support to properly execute and to be efficient, effective and successful in this role,” she added.

Originally from Essequibo, Griffith moved to Georgetown at the age of 17 to pursue higher education and career opportunities. She joined the Rotaract Club of Georgetown Central after learning about the organisation through social media, saying she was immediately attracted by its structured approach to volunteerism and community service.

“I was just immediately drawn to the way that things were being done and the fact that you’re able to give back, but it’s in a more structured way,” she said, noting that the organisation provided the ideal environment to combine her passion for helping others with organised community engagement.

Griffith described her assumption of the presidency as part of a “transformational” period in her life. In recent months, she completed a master’s degree programme, returned to Guyana after spending nearly a year in Japan, and has now taken on the responsibility of leading the club.

As president, Griffith said she hopes to cultivate a culture of openness and collaboration while ensuring members remain at the centre of the organisation’s work.

By the end of her tenure, she hopes to be remembered as a leader who listened to members, shaped a positive organisational culture and maintained the club’s commitment to excellence in community service.

According to Griffith, the success of any organisation depends largely on its internal culture, and she intends to foster an environment where members are empowered to grow while making meaningful contributions to society.

In her inaugural presidential message, Griffith introduced the theme “Carry the Standard,” which she described as a call to conscious leadership and purposeful service.

She said the theme encourages members to demonstrate excellence, integrity and compassion in every project and interaction, while upholding Rotaract’s values in both their personal and professional lives.

Looking ahead, Griffith announced several major initiatives for the year, including the continuation of the club’s flagship literacy programme, READ – Read Every-day And Discover. This year’s project will focus on children with special needs through the adoption and outfitting of a sensory room at a special needs school.

The club is also planning to establish its own Rotaract facility to host workshops, meetings and other activities aimed at strengthening youth leadership and community engagement.

Griffith said the Rotaract Club of Georgetown Central welcomes donations, sponsorships and other forms of support from individuals and organisations interested in partnering on its service projects.

She also encouraged members of the public to follow the club’s social media platforms for updates on upcoming initiatives and opportunities to become involved in community service.

Rotaract is a global youth service organisation that brings together young professionals and university students to develop leadership skills, undertake humanitarian projects and promote fellowship while addressing community needs locally and internationally.
