GUYANA’S sprinter Onesi Dunn narrowly missed a spot in the 100-metre final of the World Athletics Under-20 Championship being held in Eugene, Oregon, USA.
The Guyanese missed the top mark by a split second in Wednesday’s run, stopping the clock in 10.48 seconds for ninth place in the semi-final.
Jamaican Gary Card won the semi-final in 10.16 seconds.
Dunn qualified for the semi-final in the men’s 100-metre in 10.38 seconds with Brazil’s Micheal Cruz winning in 10.37 seconds.
Meanwhile, Athleyha Hinckson, after a blistering run to reach to the semi-finals was off her best, finishing fourth and losing out on a chance to reach the finals. She ran 11.50 seconds to finish outside the top three.
Hinckson had secured a place in the semi-finals with a blistering 11.31 seconds for second place in her women’s 100-metre heat.
She was only beaten in her heat by St. Lucia’s Jady Emmanuel with a personal best time of 11.28 seconds.
Gordon Thompson, who also ran in the 100-metre event, finished eighth place in his heat in 10.77 seconds to miss a place in the semi-finals.
