THE Guyana Wildlife Conservation and Management Commission (GWCMC) has launched a recruitment drive for volunteers to support the delivery of environmental education lessons in selected schools, as part of efforts to foster environmental awareness and conservation among young people.
The Commission is inviting interested individuals to join its environmental education programme, where volunteers will receive certified training before entering classrooms to facilitate interactive sessions designed to inspire students to become future environmental stewards.
According to the GWCMC, volunteers will conduct weekly visits to participating schools throughout the 2026/2027 academic year, with the programme scheduled to begin in September 2026.
The initiative will initially be implemented at St. Cuthbert’s Primary School, Friendship Primary School, St. Rose’s High School, Sandvoort Primary School and Berbice High School.
The Commission said the programme forms part of its broader efforts to strengthen environmental education and encourage greater appreciation for Guyana’s biodiversity and natural resources among the nation’s youth.
Persons interested in volunteering are encouraged to contact the Guyana Wildlife Conservation and Management Commission through its Facebook or Instagram pages, or via WhatsApp at 690-9453, no later than 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026.
The Commission urged members of the public to seize the opportunity to contribute to environmental conservation by helping to educate and empower the next generation to protect Guyana’s rich natural heritage.
