POLICE are investigating the discovery of an AK assault rifle with its serial number removed and two magazines concealed inside a bag in a dry drain at ‘C’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown, early Wednesday morning.
According to information released by the Guyana Police Force, ranks, acting on intelligence proceeded to an empty plot of land in the area at approximately 02:30 hrs, where they conducted a search.
During the operation, the ranks discovered the firearm and two AK magazines inside a bag that had been placed in a dry drain. No ammunition was found at the location.
The firearm and magazines were taken into police custody and escorted to the Turkeyen Police Station, where they were lodged pending further investigations.
No arrests have been made in connection with the discovery.
Police said investigations are ongoing as ranks seek to determine the origin of the weapon and identify those responsible for concealing it.
