Police ranks destroy suspected cannabis plants, seedlings and a drying camp during a joint eradication exercise at Friendship Sandhill Village and Wiruni Savannah, Upper Berbice River

POLICE destroyed more than 10,000 suspected cannabis plants and over 4,000 seedlings during a joint eradication exercise conducted at Friendship Sandhill Village and Wiruni Savannah, Upper Berbice River.
The operation, led by a Gazetted Officer, was carried out between 05:00 hrs and 20:50 hrs on Thursday, July 30.
At Friendship Sandhill Village, ranks discovered a two-acre cannabis field containing approximately 10,000 suspected cannabis plants ranging between two and four feet in height. A makeshift camp and a nursery with approximately 4,140 suspected cannabis seedlings were also found.
At Wiruni Savannah, police uncovered a drying camp measuring approximately 40 feet by 15 feet containing a quantity of suspected dried cannabis leaves.
The suspected cannabis plants, seedlings, dried cannabis, makeshift camp and drying camp were destroyed by fire.
No arrests were made and the operation was completed without incident.
Police estimated the street value of the narcotics destroyed at $2,395,316.
Investigations are continuing.
