THE Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) has engaged industry stakeholders on access to financing, business development and emergency preparedness as part of efforts to support the continued growth, safety and competitiveness of Guyana’s tourism and hospitality sector.
The discussions were held during THAG’s Members’ Meeting and Mixer at Cara Lodge on Wednesday evening and brought together association members, industry partners and other stakeholders to examine initiatives expected to influence the future development of the sector.
Minister of Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation, Zulfikar Ally, delivered a presentation on the proposed Guyana Development Bank and its potential to expand access to financing and provide additional support for tourism and hospitality enterprises.
Minister Ally outlined how the proposed institution could assist businesses through improved access to financing, mentorship and business-development services, which could support the establishment, expansion and long-term sustainability of enterprises within the sector.
Members were also briefed by Dr Charles Bunbury, Chief Executive Officer of the C. Douglas Institute of Learning (CDIL), on a proposed emergency-preparedness and first-response training programme for frontline tourism personnel.
The initiative is expected to strengthen safety awareness and improve the ability of tourism and hospitality workers to respond effectively to emergencies, while supporting efforts to enhance service standards across the industry.
The meeting provided members with an opportunity to raise questions, share concerns and engage directly with presenters on the proposed initiatives and investments.
THAG said the discussions formed part of its continuing efforts to encourage collaboration and ensure that tourism and hospitality businesses are equipped to respond to emerging opportunities and challenges.
The association expressed appreciation to Minister Ally, Dr Bunbury, its members and industry partners for contributing to the discussions.
THAG said continued co-operation among government agencies, private-sector organisations and tourism stakeholders will be important in building a safer, stronger and more competitive tourism industry.
