THE Rotary Club of Garden City (Georgetown) has donated 25 maternity hampers to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), providing essential supplies to mothers and newborns as part of its observance of Maternal and Child Health Month.

The hampers will be distributed to 11 Indigenous mothers and 14 other mothers identified as being most in need, with the initiative aimed at providing practical assistance and helping to give newborns a healthy start in life.

Each hamper contains a range of essential items for both mothers and babies, including clothing, toiletries, hygiene products, blankets, towels, nappies, baby-care supplies and other newborn necessities.

The Rotary Club said the hampers were carefully prepared to provide comfort and practical support to mothers during the critical early stages of caring for their newborns.

The initiative was made possible through contributions from members of the Rotary Club of Garden City family, corporate partners, businesses, friends and individual donors, who provided financial support and donated items towards the preparation of the hampers.

Club President, Pearson Burch-Smith, said the project demonstrated the impact that could be achieved through collective service and community support.

“This small project reflects what can be achieved when people come together in service to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others,” Burch-Smith said.

The Club expressed appreciation to all those who contributed to the initiative, noting that their support ensured that mothers and their newborns received much-needed assistance at an important stage of their lives.

The donation forms part of Rotary’s wider commitment to improving maternal and child health, supporting families and strengthening communities through service-based initiatives.

Through its guiding principle of “Service Above Self,” the Rotary Club of Garden City said it will continue to pursue projects aimed at uplifting communities and creating lasting positive change across Guyana.
