AGRICULTURE Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha, has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding partnership with the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI), as discussions continue on expanding co-operation in agricultural research, innovation and agri-food development.
The Minister recently received a courtesy call from CARDI’s newly appointed Guyana Country Representative, Barry Joefield, and the Institute’s Executive Director, Ansari Hosein.
During the engagement, the officials discussed several areas of mutual interest, including opportunities to deepen collaboration on agricultural research, technological innovation, development initiatives and support for Guyana’s expanding agri-food sector.
Minister Mustapha welcomed the continued partnership between Guyana and CARDI, highlighting the institution’s longstanding role in supporting agricultural development and strengthening research capacity.
He noted that greater collaboration could further support initiatives aimed at improving productivity, promoting innovation and advancing sustainability across the agricultural sector.
The discussions also focused on identifying areas in which CARDI’s technical expertise and regional experience could complement Guyana’s ongoing agricultural development agenda.
CARDI has worked with regional governments and agricultural stakeholders to support research, technology transfer and the development of sustainable agricultural practices.
The engagement underscored the shared commitment of Guyana and CARDI to advancing research-driven solutions and strengthening the capacity of the agri-food sector to respond to emerging opportunities and challenges.
The Ministry of Agriculture said continued co-operation is expected to support efforts to improve agricultural productivity, encourage innovation and promote sustainable growth within Guyana’s agriculture sector.
