THE Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and the Florida National Guard have strengthened security co-operation through a Subject Matter Expert Exchange focused on Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), an initiative expected to support Guyana’s military modernisation and enhance its capacity for national security and disaster response.
The recent engagement allowed personnel from both forces to share advanced operational concepts, technical knowledge and best practices related to the use and integration of drone technology.
The exchange forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the GDF’s operational capabilities through the adoption of modern technologies and expanded co-operation with international security partners.
According to information released on the engagement, the integration of unmanned aerial systems is expected to improve Guyana’s domain awareness by strengthening the ability of security forces to monitor and assess activities across the country’s vast and diverse territory.
The technology is also expected to support national security operations and improve the country’s capacity to respond to emergencies and natural disasters.
Through the exchange, personnel gained exposure to technical insights and operational approaches that could assist the GDF in advancing the use of drone technology across a range of security and humanitarian applications.
The Florida National Guard and the GDF have indicated their commitment to continuing similar strategic engagements as part of broader efforts to deepen security co-operation.
The partnership is also expected to contribute to regional stability by strengthening interoperability, promoting knowledge-sharing and supporting the development of modern defence capabilities.
