The Beharry Group National U-19 schools T20 cricket tournament, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Zone 7 climaxed on Sunday night with the final of West Berbice Zone under lights at the Woodley Park ground in Cotton Tree Village, West Bank Berbice.
Led by an entertaining unbeaten half century from Man-of-the-Match Ricardo Danesar, West Side High demolished Bush Lot Secondary by nine wickets in a game reduced to 15 overs due to rain.
It is said that when night falls the stars come out to shine but on Sunday night the only star that shone was Danesar who followed 34 earlier in day with a masterful 54 which lasted just 35 balls and decorated with seven glorious fours and three effortless sixes.

Man-of-the-Match Ricardo Danesar hit 54 not out

Chasing Bush Lot Secondary’s paltry 77-9 in 15 overs, West Side High, suffered an inauspicious start when Afzal Amir bowled Noah Harilall off the ball of the innings.
Harilall’s demise made way for the ‘Danesar’ show as the talented teenage cut lose with an array scintillating shots on both sides of the wicket to delight of the small but vocal gathering.
Danesar dominated an 82-run second wicket partnership with Devendra Samaroo who 27 balls in carefully constructed undefeated 17.
Danesar, who made 34 and had 3-3 in semis, closed off the match with consecutive boundaries off Rampaul Seeram’s first two balls, the second one going for six.
Earlier, in windy conditions, Matthew Surgrim, batting a number six, hit three sixes in a cameo 27 before he was bowled by Romel Sukhnandan at 77-8. Surgrim shared in 28-run stand with Renaldo Mohabir who ended on zero not out.
Surgrim was the only batter to reach double figures as Extras top-scored with 32 which included 29 wides.
Ricardo Laruie, Sukhnandan and Kishan Ramroop had two wickets each for the Zone 7 champions.
Heading into the national play-offs appropriate coaches should sent to the schools to work with the PE teachers and students to improve the standard of players.
