THE body of a 14-year-old Corentyne boy who was reported missing following a suspected drowning earlier this week was discovered on Wednesday morning along the Dukestown Foreshore in Corriverton, prompting an ongoing police investigation.
Dead is Devanand Balram, also known as “Whiteboy,” of No. 60 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
According to the Guyana Police Force, the teenager’s body was found at approximately 07:00 hrs in the vicinity of the Dukestown seawall after relatives resumed a search that had been ongoing for two days.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Balram was suspected to have drowned at the Springlands Foreshore on Sunday, July 13. Family members and others had been searching the area since the incident but were unsuccessful in locating him.
Police said the search resumed at about 06:00 hrs on Wednesday, when relatives made the grim discovery.
The body was found lying face down in a crouched position between several rocks along the foreshore. He was clad only in a pair of boxer shorts and was reported to be in an advanced state of decomposition.
Investigators conducted an initial examination of the body at the scene and reported that no visible marks of violence were observed.
The body has since been removed as investigators continue their inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.
Police have not yet released further details and said investigations remain ongoing.
