POLICE are investigating a fatal industrial incident which occurred on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, about 14:30hrs at Morwa Backdam, Cuyuni River, resulting in the death of Dillon Tobin, a serviceman of Manawarin Village, Moruca, North West District.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a 47-year-old excavator operator was operating a Doosan 225 excavator while Tobin was seated on the machine, when a tree branch reportedly recoiled and struck him, causing him to fall from the excavator.

The excavator operator immediately rendered assistance; however, Tobin later became motionless.

The body is presently at the mining camp, and Police ranks are en route to the scene as investigations continue. (GPF)
