THE Private Sector Commission (PSC) has expressed gratitude to its member organisations for contributing food, medicines and other essential relief supplies to assist communities affected by the recent earthquakes in Venezuela, as Guyana’s private sector joined a wider regional humanitarian response.
In a statement, the PSC said the collective effort reflected the generosity and solidarity of Guyana’s business community and underscored its commitment to supporting neighbouring countries during times of crisis.
The commission confirmed that the humanitarian shipment arrived safely at La Guaira Port in Venezuela on Sunday aboard the vessels Mega and Motti.
The relief supplies formed part of a regional assistance initiative spearheaded by President, Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, with support from CARICOM member states and the private sector.
The shipment was received by Venezuela’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yvan Gil, in the presence of Guyana’s Ambassador to Venezuela Dr Richard Van-West Charles.
According to the PSC, the successful delivery of the supplies demonstrates the value of regional co-operation and the importance of coordinated humanitarian action in responding to natural disasters.
The commission extended its appreciation to all member organisations that had answered the call for assistance, noting that their contributions of food, essential medicines and other relief items would help support communities affected by the earthquakes.
“The PSC sincerely thanks every member organisation that answered the call to assist,” the organisation said, adding that the response exemplified the private sector’s commitment to humanitarian service, regional co-operation and standing in solidarity with people in need.
The relief effort is part of a broader regional response aimed at providing emergency assistance to Venezuelan communities impacted by the recent seismic events.
