GUYANA’S junior squash stars put on a masterclass at the 2026 Junior Caribbean Squash Championships (CASA) in the British Virgin Islands, dominating the courts to secure a brilliant haul of three gold, three silver, and one bronze medal as the individual events wrapped up on Sunday.
The sensational performance firmly cements the country’s status as the powerhouse of regional junior squash, highlighted by intense all-Guyanese showdowns and gritty title defences.
The day’s most gripping drama unfolded in the Girls U-17 division, where Kaylee Lowe successfully retained her regional crown in a breathtaking five-game final against her compatriot Emily Fung-a-Fat. After dropping the opening game, Lowe dug deep to edge a tense second frame.
The two local stars traded blows before Lowe relied on her championship pedigree to seal the deciding fifth game, finishing 9-11, 13-11, 11-7, 9-11, 8-11. An emotional Lowe later reflected on the sacrifice required to become a two-time CASA champion, noting that defending the title meant even more than winning it the first time. Fung-a-Fat walked away with a highly commendable and hard-fought silver.
Guyana’s golden run continued in the Girls U-13 division, which treated fans to another thrilling all-domestic final. Close friends became fierce rivals on the court as Tehani Munroe squared off against Zoey McDonald.
Neither player held back, but Munroe found an extra gear under pressure, overcoming an early deficit to secure the Caribbean title with a hard-fought 11-6, 8-11, 10-12, 9-11 victory, while McDonald took home the silver.
Meanwhile, Alexis Arjoon completed Guyana’s golden hat-trick by delivering a clinical display throughout the tournament to comfortably claim the Girls U-11 Championship.
It was a historic, bittersweet day for the Bulkan family in the Boys U-15 category, as both brothers earned spots on the podium. Egan Bulkan fought valiantly in his gold-medal match against the home crowd favourite, Jakob of the British Virgin Islands, ultimately falling just short in a tight four-game battle to secure the silver medal.
His brother, Ethan Bulkan, ensured he wouldn’t leave empty-handed by bouncing back in style for the third-place playoff. Ethan produced a dominant straight-games sweep over Barbados’ Ethan Cyrus, winning 11-9, 11-2, 11-2 to claim the bronze.
Other Guyanese players found the going tough against top-tier regional opposition in their respective bronze medal matches. In the Boys U-13 bracket, Zion Hickerson fought hard but fell in straight games to Barbados’ Finn Graham.
In the U-19 divisions, Shiloh Asregado put up a spirited fight against second seed Jaydon Williams before exiting in four games, while Malia Maikoo competed fiercely in the Girls U-19 lineup but was bested in straight games by Elle Wilson.
