ELEVEN-YEAR-OLD Ethan Dyer of Bethany, Supenaam Creek, is celebrating a major milestone after securing 475.17 marks at the 2026 National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA), earning himself a coveted place at Abram Zuil Secondary School.
The Bethany Primary School pupil, who hopes to one day become a mechanical engineer, credits discipline, faith and the support of his family for helping him achieve success.
According to Ethan, each day leading up to the examinations began with morning devotion, which helped set the tone for his studies and daily activities.

“My mother would use this period to pray for me and encourage me to always do my best,” he shared.
Reading also played a significant role in Ethan’s preparation. While many children his age enjoy spending hours gaming, Ethan found himself drawn to books and the exciting stories they offered.
“Reading plays an important role in my life. Often, I prefer reading to gaming because of the interesting stories,” he said.
Beyond academics, Ethan maintained an active lifestyle. He enjoyed riding his bicycle up the hill to school each day, an activity that helped him balance his studies and physical exercise.
Having achieved his goal of earning a place at Abram Zuil Secondary School, Ethan is already looking ahead to the future. Inspired by a passion for how things work, the young scholar hopes to pursue a career as a mechanical engineer.
As he reflects on his journey, Ethan is encouraging future NGSA candidates to strike a healthy balance between studying and relaxation.
“Take the time to revise, but also make time to relax and play,” he advised.
Ethan’s accomplishment has brought pride to his family, school, and the Amerindian community of Bethany, serving as an inspiration to other young pupils striving to achieve their dreams.
