TWO persons were arrested after police allegedly discovered more than 460 grams of suspected cannabis during an operation at Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo.

Police said the operation was conducted at about 11:50 hrs on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

During the exercise, ranks went to a residence in the area, where they contacted a 29-year-old labourer and a 31-year-old unemployed woman.

A search of the premises reportedly led to the discovery of several plastic bags and containers containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis concealed among clothing in a bedroom.

The two suspects were arrested and escorted to the Leonora Police Station along with the suspected narcotics.

Police said the suspected cannabis was weighed in the presence of the suspects and amounted to 461.6 grams before being lodged.

Both suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
