POLICE are investigating the alleged murder of a 32-year-old gold miner who was fatally shot during an altercation at Sands Backdam, Cuyuni River.
Dead is Ceton Courtman of St. Monica Village, Upper Pomeroon River.
According to police, the incident occurred at about 11:50 hrs on Monday, July 6, 2026. Preliminary investigations revealed that Courtman became involved in an altercation with a 27-year-old security guard employed by a private security service.
During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly discharged a round from a firearm, striking Courtman to the head.
The injured miner was transported to the Aurora Gold Mines (AGM) Medical Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a medic on duty.
Police said the body bore a single gunshot wound to the centre of the head. The suspect was arrested and remains in police custody.
Investigators also recovered a Taurus .32 pistol and 12 matching live rounds of ammunition, which have been lodged pending further examination.
Arrangements are being made to transport the body to Bartica and subsequently to Memorial Funeral Home, where it will undergo a post-mortem examination. Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
