PROSPECTIVE students seeking admission to the University of Guyana (UG) for the 2026/2027 academic year will have a second opportunity to apply, as the country’s premier tertiary institution reopens applications for selected degree, diploma and certificate programmes from July 8 to August 17, 2026.
The university announced that the second application phase is specifically intended for programmes where spaces remain available and is expected to benefit students who were unable to apply during the initial application period, as well as those who recently sat the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) and are awaiting their results.
UG had previously accepted applications for the upcoming academic year between March 30 and May 9, 2026. The institution said the additional application window reflects its commitment to expanding access to higher education while ensuring that prospective students have another opportunity to secure placement in available programmes.
Information on the programmes being offered during this second application phase, along with application procedures and other important details, is available through the university’s official communication channels, including its website, Student Records Management System (SRMS), official social media platforms, and media partners.
The university also provided an update for applicants who submitted applications during the March-May application period and have not yet received a response, noting that admissions decisions are expected to begin being communicated by mid-July.
Meanwhile, applicants who submit their applications during the July-August application period are expected to receive a response regarding their application status by August 28, 2026. Prospective students have been encouraged to regularly monitor the SRMS portal to track the progress of their applications.
According to the university, orientation activities and the commencement of classes for the new academic year are scheduled to begin during the final week of August and the first week of September.
UG is urging prospective students, particularly those who missed the initial application window, to apply as early as possible during the second phase to avoid the challenges associated with late registration and enrolment.
The university has also made available detailed guidance on the application process, including step-by-step instructions for prospective applicants seeking admission to one of Guyana’s leading institutions of higher learning.
