THE Giftland Charity Foundation has donated 2,000 pairs of shoes to support humanitarian relief efforts for victims of the recent earthquake in Venezuela, with the supplies expected to be airlifted to affected areas on Wednesday.
The donation, which was handed over to the British High Commission in Georgetown, forms part of ongoing international assistance efforts aimed at providing immediate support to families displaced by the disaster.
According to the Foundation, the shipment comprises 2,000 pairs of adult shoes in assorted sizes and is intended to assist individuals residing in shelters and temporary camps, where access to basic necessities remains a pressing concern.
The donation was presented by Giftland Charity Foundation representative and Marketing Supervisor, Ms. Miller, to members of the Venezuela Earthquake Relief Programme.
Chairman of the Giftland Charity Foundation, Roy Beepat, said the initiative reflects the spirit of regional solidarity and the commitment of the Guyanese people to support neighbouring countries during times of crisis.
“In times of crisis, humanity must transcend borders. When we saw the devastation impacting our neighbours in Venezuela, we knew we had to act,” Beepat said. “This donation represents the compassion of the Guyanese people and our commitment to standing with our regional family. We are honoured to partner with the British High Commission to ensure these shoes reach those who need them most.”
The Foundation noted that the supplies were mobilised to help reduce the risk of injury and disease among vulnerable populations affected by the earthquake, particularly those living in temporary accommodation.
The donation was received by His Majesty’s British High Commissioner to Guyana, who commended the Foundation’s prompt response and generosity, while reaffirming the United Kingdom’s commitment to supporting humanitarian relief operations through partnerships and coordinated international assistance.
The Giftland Charity Foundation said the initiative aligns with its broader mission of supporting humanitarian causes, disaster response efforts and community development initiatives throughout Guyana and the wider Caribbean region.
The organisation also expressed its sympathies to those affected by the earthquake and indicated that it continues to explore additional ways to support relief and recovery efforts in Venezuela.
