Three Rivers Initiative, Slingerz open registration for DJ Spin Camp

THREE Rivers Initiative, in partnership with Slingerz Family Entertainment, has opened registration for the DJ Spin Camp, a free, five-day creative learning programme for young people aged 15–18.
The camp runs August 10–14, 2026, from 9:00hrs to 15:00hrs at Leonora Stadium, West Coast Demerara, according to a press release.
Organisers say the camp will give participants hands-on exposure to DJ equipment, music mixing, sound performance and teamwork, while building creative confidence and discipline.
The curriculum covers the basics of DJing, mixing and transitions, music selection and rhythm, performance skills and sound culture, delivered in a supportive and energetic learning environment.
Leading instruction and mentorship will come from Professor Arthur Craig of Virginia Tech, Associate Professor of Practice in the university’s Academy of Transdisciplinary Studies and Programme Director of VTDITC: Hip Hop Studies.
Professor Craig, a DJ since 1997 and member of the Table Rok Crew, will serve as the camp’s technical and cultural facilitator.
Craig brings experience in higher education, youth mentorship and community cultural programming; since joining Virginia Tech in 2016 he helped build VTDITC, a programme that has hosted more than 1,300 events and received multiple awards.
“This camp is about more than music,” said Candice Ramessar, Coordinator of Three Rivers Initiative.
“It is about giving young people a structured space to build confidence, learn a creative skill, work as a team, and see themselves as capable, disciplined, and talented. Music has always been a powerful part of Guyanese culture, and this camp gives young people a chance to be part of that tradition while learning modern creative and technical skills.”
Three Rivers Initiative frames the DJ Spin Camp as part of a wider strategy to support youth development, STEAM learning and practical skills-building.
Slingerz Family Entertainment will contribute as a community partner, providing practical DJ and sound-system experience, mentorship and youth engagement.
The organisers emphasise that the partnership connects structured training with Guyana’s community-rooted music culture, giving local creatives equipment, mentorship and a proper platform.
Spaces are limited and organisers are encouraging early registration. The camp is free; transportation assistance to Leonora will be provided on a needs basis.
