A 37-year-old labourer of Parika Sea Dam, East Bank Essequibo, is in police custody after ranks allegedly discovered five pounds of suspected cannabis during an operation on Saturday morning.

The police said the discovery was made at about 08:30hrs after ranks, acting on information, went to the Parika Sea Dam area.

According to investigators, the suspect was contacted and a search was conducted, during which several ziplock bags and a plastic bucket containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis were found.

The man was arrested and escorted to the Parika Police Station along with the suspected narcotic.

The police said the suspected cannabis, before it was lodged, was weighed in the suspect’s presence and amounted to five pounds.
