ENTRIES are pouring in rapidly for next week’s CARICOM Cup horse race which is set for Sunday July 5, at Bush Lot United, West Coast Berbice.

Close to 100 horses secured entry for the highly anticipated horse race and the headline event will see the clash of Dataman and Olympic Kremlin.

Initially, 11 races were on the cards, but due to the overwhelming entries, organisers are pushing for a 12-race programme.

The two-years-old race will be carved into two, with fillies and colts running in respective races. Organisers disclosed that there has been a packed list of Guyana-bred two-year-old horses that will be battling for supremacy.

This CARICOM Cup will be the perfect preparation race for the Guyana Cup which is set for August 23.

More than G$15 million in cash and prizes will be up for grabs at next week’s race meet.

The CARICOM Gold Cup feature will be open to all three-years-old and over horses going at a distance of 1900 metres. A total purse of four million will be up for grabs and the top horse will receive two million.

Other races on the programme include the CARICOM Sprint stakes open to all four-years-old and over, CARICOM Derby open to three-years-old Guyana bred, and the ‘E’ Class and Lower.

There is also the Rising Star stakes, open to three-year-old imported horses, the three-years-old and over WI Bred winners, ‘H’ Class and Lower WI Bred non-winners in Guyana, three-years-old and over I/J/K Class, ‘L’ Class winners, K&L Maidens and the future star stakes two-year-old Guyana-bred juveniles which will now have two races.
