MINISTER of Public Service, Government Efficiency, and Implementation Zulfikar Ally has said that Guyana’s changing economic landscape and the emergence of new industries are creating increasing demand for skilled workers.
The minister made this known while speaking to recent graduates of the Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL), who he encouraged to position themselves to meet the country’s evolving needs.
Ally told graduates they are entering a rapidly transforming environment where qualifications, adaptability and continued learning will play a major role in future success.
He said the country’s development has created opportunities that differ significantly from the challenges people faced years ago, noting that graduates today are entering a labour market where employment opportunities continue to expand.
“We are in unprecedented transformation, new industries are emerging, existing sectors are expanding. Technology is reshaping how we deliver services and how business operates,” Ally said.
According to the minister, the demands of the labour market are changing as economic growth creates greater need for qualified workers across sectors.
“It’s certainly not if you can find a job, because there are thousands of vacancies in the system,” he told the graduates.
He stated that many graduates globally often face uncertainty after completing their studies, particularly with concerns surrounding employment and student debt, but said Guyanese graduates are entering a different reality.
“You don’t have to worry about two of the most fundamental things that people all over the world worry about when they graduate: Finding jobs and paying back student loans,” he said.
He further stated that companies are increasingly competing for workers as Guyana’s economy continues to grow.
“Companies looking for workers instead of workers looking for jobs. The labour force needs you. Our country needs you,” Ally said.
He further highlighted the importance of human capital in sustaining development, noting that national progress ultimately depends on the abilities and innovation of its people.
He encouraged graduates to continue upgrading their qualifications and skills, reminding them that the education they received was not only a personal achievement but an investment in Guyana’s future.
