Overnight rain failed to put a damper on yesterday’s Beharry Group National U-19 schools T20 cricket tournament, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Education
(MOE) and Petra Organisation at the Uitvlugt Community Centre ground in West Demerara.
The proceedings commenced with a colourful March past of teams before the well-organised Ceremony, which was chaired by Petra Representative, Troy Peters.

In sunny conditions under mostly blue skies, at a venue which hosted Barbados and Canada in the 1998 Red Stripe Bowl and later, held its first International game when Guyana
played South Africa, Essequibo Islands Secondary School demolished Tuschen Secondary School by 176 runs.
A fluent 52 from Navindra Persaud and 44 from Aarav Sukhram shared in a century stand to spearhead Essequibo Islands Secondary School to 211 from 20 overs, as they
benefitted from 81 Extras. Damarcus Thompson and Fayed Basksh captured three
wickets each, while Justin Dowlin and Sukhram had two wickets apiece as Tuschen Secondary School from the East Bank of Essequibo, were dismantled for a paltry 32 in 10.3
overs.
Marraseh Fredrics had Essequibo Under-15 batter Dowlin caught and bowled for a duck without a run on the board as Essequibo Secondary, which produced West Indies player
Keemo Paul, began inauspiciously.
Nickel Retemiah (10) Persaud added 40 before Fredrics trapped Retemiah LBW.
Persaud played several delightful shots on both sides of the wicket, and along with Sukhram shared in a 122-run third-wicket partnership before Jumol Morris bowled Sukhram at 162-3 in the 15 th over.
On reaching his fifty from 55 balls with five fours and a six,
Persaud retired hurt for 52 before Dennis Crossman made a cameo 14 from just six balls with three boundaries.
Fredrics (2-27) and Morris (2-29) bowled for Tuschen, who horrendously began their reply and never recovered.
Six of their batters made ducks while nobody reached double figures.
In the Georgetown zone, played at Uitvlugt due to heavy showers in the City, Saint Stanislaus College defeated New Central High School by four wicket Central High made 89-9 innings closed in 13.2 overs, with only Peter Kan scoring 34 with six fours, getting double figures. Extras contributed 45.
