HAMBANTOTA, Sri Lanka,  (CMC) – SRI Lanka Emerging Players produced another masterclass effort with the ball on their way to romping to a dominant innings and 216-run victory over the West Indies Academy on the third day of the second and final unofficial ‘Test’ at the Mahinda Rajapaksha International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

Resuming the day with an already healthy lead of 199 runs, Anjala Bandara scored his third century in as many innings as Sri Lanka racked up 553 for five in 122 overs before declaring their innings.

Bandara, who scored 163 and an unbeaten 189 in the opening match, ended on 105 not out off 139 balls, while Sharujan Shanmuganathan made 74.

Faced with an intimidating deficit of 322 runs, the Academy’s batters failed to navigate the spin duo of Asitha Wanninayake and Shakthi Udara and were eventually routed for a paltry 106 in 29.5 overs.

The result ensured the home side captured the two-match ‘Test’ series after the opener ended in a draw.

Pacer Mihiranga Silva started the ball rolling for Sri Lanka by trapping Johann Jeremiah lbw with the second ball of the innings without a run on the board and also accounted for the wicket of Mavendra Dindyal by the same route for just six to leave the Academy in early trouble at 10 for two.

Damel Evelyn and Shaqkere Parris tried to repair the damage during a partnership of 47 runs for the third wicket, but once off spinner Chamod Battage bowled Evelyn for 26, the Academy’s innings folded.

Left-arm spinner Udara then claimed the wickets of Giovonte DePeiza for four, Parris for the topscore of 28 and captain Rivaldo Clarke for 21, to reduce the Academy to 94 for six.

Wanninayake then polished off the tail by grabbing the last four wickets for just five runs to end the contest in stunning fashion.

He finished with the impressive figures of 4-5 from his 1.5 overs, while Udara took 3-25 and Silva 2-64.
