HUNDREDS of Region Three residents on Friday turned out at the National Track and Field Centre at Leonora, West Coast Demerara, to have long-standing concerns addressed during another public-day outreach led by Vice-president Dr Bharrat Jagdeo.
The outreach saw the Vice President joined by several Cabinet ministers and representatives from government ministries and agencies, all working to address issues raised by residents while bringing public services closer to communities.

Designated stations were established across the venue, allowing residents to engage directly with officials on matters relating to housing, agriculture, social services, infrastructure and other areas.
Throughout the day, Dr Jagdeo met with hundreds of residents, listening to concerns and directing them to the relevant agencies to ensure their matters received the necessary attention.
Many attendees praised the initiative, describing it as an effective way of connecting citizens with decision-makers and accessing services in one location.

Among them was Subbaschand Bachan, who said he attended the outreach to seek assistance with housing matters and was pleased with the overall experience.
“Actually, I come housing, and so far, everything has gone smooth and well. Also, I went and do my eye testing and I get through with everything, all the systems are flowing well and everything is going good,” Bachan said.
Jamal Pereira also commended the exercise, noting that it provided an opportunity for residents to interact directly with senior government officials.

“I think it’s a good initiative. You could get to interact closely with the Vice President, the ministers and everybody. Very helpful. I didn’t get through with my land, I bring my land paper, they collect my information and they said they would give me a call,” Pereira said.
Meanwhile, Derek Persaud said the outreach demonstrated the government’s commitment to engaging citizens and resolving issues affecting communities.
“We are here at the Leonora Track and Field with the government outreach. We have here with us the Vice President and the ministers for the various ministries. This is a reality coming through, this is something what the government wanted to do, meet with the people them and get to know what are the issues and get it solved. So, this is amazing what is happening here today,” Persaud said.
The public-day outreach forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to engage residents at the community level, providing direct access to senior officials, while facilitating faster responses from agencies responsible for addressing public concerns.
